Dear Parents:


We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week during the week of October 22-26. Each day there will be an activity taking place and we are asking your assistance to ensure your child is a part of this learning experience.


The observance of Red Ribbon week started in 1985 after Special DEA Agent Enrique

Camarena was kidnapped and murdered by drug traffickers in Mexico. This tragic event produced an immediate outpouring of grief, which over time has generated a sense of hope across America through the observance of Red Ribbon Month in October. Now, children are educated about the dangerous effects of drug abuse and it is our hope that they will reject these pitfalls. Red ribbons are worn during this month to show a symbol of unity against the use of illicit drugs and celebrate the millions of people who have pledged to live drug free.


Activities that will take place during the week of October 22-26 to involve students are:

Monday, October 22 Theme: “Count On Me To Be Drug Free Day”:

Students wear articles of clothing that have numbers on them.

Have students sign “I Pledge to be Drug-Free” card


Tuesday, October 23 Theme: “USE YOUR HEAD: DON’T DO DRUGS DAY”

Students have the opportunity to wear a “crazy” hairdo.

Wednesday, October 24

Theme: “DRUGS MAKE NO CENTS….BE A HERO……. STAY DRUG FREE”

Dress as a Superhero



Thursday, October 25 Theme: “RED THURSDAY”

Everyone is encouraged to wear RED to show support for all those affected by drug and alcohol abuse.



Friday, October 26 COMMUNITY SERVICE DAY

Theme: “BEING DRUG FREE COMES IN CANS...I CAN…….YOU CAN…… WE CAN”


Students are asked to donate “canned food” items. While we appreciate donations of all non-perishable food items, the following are items that are especially needed:

  • Noodles

  • Canned Fruit

  • Peanut butter

  • Jelly

  • Soups (chicken noodle, vegetable, etc.)

  • Jell-O/Pudding

  • Canned Meats (Vienna sausages, tuna, etc.)

  • Spaghetti, Ravioli, etc.

  • Drinks (individual packaged (Capri sun)

  • Crackers (individual wrapped)
